BEAVERTON, Ore. – Every year at The Opening Finals, a tight end emerges as an unstoppable force that dominates the event. Two years ago Isaac Nauta earned his fifth star after a nasty 1on1 session. Last year it was Colby Parkinson that got his fifth star following the event. This year that guy may be Jeremy Ruckert.
The Lindenhurst (N.Y.) High School product is only 16 years old but he looks college ready. Through the quarterback-wide receiver session from the first two days, Ruckert flashed the kind of body control and ball skills that we want in that five-star range. He’s already ranked as the No. 1 tight end in the country by 247Sports in a loaded tight end class and he looks it.
Ohio State is currently the Crystal Ball favorite for Ruckert but Michigan, Wisconsin and Notre Dame are among the others giving serious chase. If he can dominate like the past few top tight ends have, Ruckert could be adding some five-star juice to whoever lands him.
Notes on a star-studded group of WRs
Nobody can earn themselves a fifth star with a two-day performance against, air but you can set yourself up for a five-star audition the rest of the week. There are seven guys that in my opinion are positioned to have that audition the rest of the week.
Jordyn Adams – The most fluid wide receiver at the event. He’s good at everything athletically.
Kamryn Babb – He’s only 6-foot-1 but Babb has the most imposing receiver body at the event. That translates to power and explosiveness for Babb.
JaMarr Chase – The Louisiana native commits on Monday to either TCU or LSU and he’s going to bring powerful athleticism to either roster. Along with Adams, Chase has some of the most upward mobility in the rankings.
Terrace Marshall – A fluid receiver with legit 4.5 speed who has the size to be a red-zone, move-the-chains threat, Marshall looks like one of the two premier big receivers in this class.
Mark Pope – Pope has the best hands out there. He’s got the best ball skills out there. He may not be quite as flashy in terms of frame and pure speed but he is fun to watch catch the football.
